A very quiet penultimate week of the season which saw only 15 anglers venture out onto the water. No-one fished on either Monday or Tuesday with only three rods on the banks on Wednesday. A gusty south east wind forced them to stick to Hut and Verdun’s Point but not a single fish was taken. Thursday was also another day with nobody fishing.

However, Friday brought with it a gentle 5mph SSE breeze with overcast skies and comfortable air temperatures. Four anglers boat-fished and some good sport was had. John Scragg had taken a very creditable 6 fish bag the previous Friday on a dry bibio and fiery brown klinkhammer. His hopes of repeating that feat with dries were however dashed as the trout had clearly gone deeper. Season ticket holder Scott Wilson indeed found them at depth using a white boobie minkie, in and around the Cascade, and by the end of his half-day session had fought ten rainbows to the net. Regular Jamie Scott alternated between black & white snake patterns fished slow on a fast intermediate to end on a six fish tally. Meanwhile, season rod Paul Walker stuck to his tried & tested weighted damsel nymphs for a three fish catch.

Colder & windier conditions on Saturday saw most anglers blank, although John Varley managed a nice brace of fish from the bank at Flamingo Bay, one on a boobie minkie – the other to a Montana nymph. With only one angler out in a boat briefly on Sunday it was a very slow end to a very quiet week at the venue.

Nevertheless, fish still hold in good numbers in the vicinity of the Cascade & down through Heron Bay to Heron Point. With the season coming to its conclusion on Friday, a final end of season visit could prove to be memorable.
