Foremark weekly report week ending 15th April 2018

Telephone Number: 01283 703202

Another varied week due the poor weather conditions and changing wind direction. The sun rarely broke through the mist and rainclouds that were ever present during the majority of the week with the reservoir only seeing sunnier conditions on Saturday. Despite this, we have seen some good buzzer hatches this week which has meant that fishing imitative patterns has been productive although lures have still caught

The bank fishing continues to yield the best results although the boat returns continue to increase as the fish are slowly moving out of Flamingo Bay and explore the other parts of the reservoir. It is evident from the returns that fish have moved down Carvers Arm into Bramble bay whilst the boats have also caught in the cascade and along the dam wall.

Monday saw the best fishing of the week with a rod average of over 11 with several anglers recording 15 plus fish including Mr. Sherwood, Mr. Burundt, and Mr Tomkinson. Regulars Mr Spence and Mr. Worley fished from a boat to land over 40 between them whilst staff member Kev Hart fished a short session in readiness for his forthcoming tuition day next week and landed 13 fishing buzzers on a 5 weight outfit.

On Tuesday morning the rain came and continued through till Friday morning. This dampened the fishing somewhat although the average to Friday was still a creditable 3.5. Joe Woodward used buzzers and damsels to take 12 from the bank on Tuesday afternoon whilst member Scott Wilson and DCAC regulars Mr Burton and Mr Graney all averaged over 9 apiece on Wednesday. Thursday was a tougher day with a lot of anglers catching either one or two fish although member Mr Fogg landed 6. Friday though very cold, was better with both the boats and bank anglers catching well to record a daily average of 4

Saturday saw the reappearance of the sun and the fishing started to improve. Paul Walker (see note at end of report) was able to make his second visit of the week, this time with his grandson and was rewarded with 3 nice fish included a superb over -wintered 4-and-a-half-pound rainbow taken on a minkie from a boat drifting along the dam wall. Saturday evening saw some nice catches as the fish enjoyed a late buzzer hatch with both Mr Darcey and Mr Stringer taking 5 fish on their last 4 hour tickets. Due to the closure of Colwick Park earlier this year, their Troutmasters fish-off was held at Foremark on Saturday. Tom Morton was the winner, with 4 fish weighing in at 8 pounds 3 ounces. Tom will now represent Colwick at the national final at Draycote this coming October.

Sunday saw a return to overcast and breezy conditions with occasional rain showers, but the fish continued to feed on a prolific buzzer hatch. Vince Aronica and John Buckley took 20 + each on buzzers whilst from the boat, Mr Mather and his partner Mr Whitehurst used minkie boobies to take 14 including a nice over wintered brownie of 3 and a half pounds (photo on our Facebook page). Our trout masters fish off was held on Sunday and produced a match rod average of 3.5. Jim Retallic came out on top with 4 fish for 9 pounds. and together with Ayub Khan who won the juniors event, will now represent the fishery at the national finals being held later this year.

Winner of this week’s free boat draw: Mr Bob Jamison of Repton

HELP!  Lift required to fishing waters…

“Good Day to all you Fly-fishers,

I am sure many of you will know PAUL WALKER (a successful Foremark & Draycote angler)– if only by sight as you tote your bags to the water.   Despite being fit as a flea Paul is no longer able to drive.

It would be wonderful if someone could come to the rescue and help with transport.   I can deliver Paul to your home and pick up later – anywhere up to 10 miles from Breaston (DE723BH)

Paul has fished fly all his life and would be happy to share skills, all costs, and pleasures.

A regular or a one-off, Paul would have done the same for you.

Thank you.   Enid Walker
