FOREMARK The in form fishery!
Following the demise of the beast from the east and storm Emma, Foremark finally opened its doors at 7.30am last Tuesday and anglers were catching fish from the first cast of the new season. The bank anglers caught well from in front of the lodge to Hutt point with double figure bags common. Black and green and green and white were the most successful flies, fished mid water on either midge tips or intermediate or slow sinkers. The boats fared equally well, fishing approximately 50 yards from the shore in sailing club bay and Flamingo bay although fish were caught down Carvers Arm. In all 47 rods recorded 548 fish for a Rod Average of 11.6
Wednesday and Thursday fished even better with the 18 anglers who fished on Wednesday recording over 300 fish for a staggering rod average of over 17, whilst on Thursday, the anglers netted just under 300 fish for a rod average of just under 17. Sport continued to be excellent although slightly more difficult on Friday and Saturday with the rod average dropping to a still very respectable 7.6 on Friday and 8.4 on Saturday.
Sunday saw an excellent turnout with 32 rods fishing in conditions that deteriorated during the day with a cold blustery easterly affecting the fishery. The rod average was still over 8 although it was noticed that the fish were beginning to shoal up in large pods. Flamingo Bay was the best area with the boats out fishing the bank anglers probably due to the easterly wind that blew up in the afternoon.
With double figure catches commonplace week, there were numerous noteworthy catches with several well-conditioned over wintered fish coming being caught along the Ticknall bank in Carvers Arm. It was also nice to see a few of last season’s blue trout making an appearance. This week the fishery hosted a bank match for members of the Derbyshire Fly Fishers whose member’s recorded 188 fish with several catching personal bests. Match organiser Phil Webb kindly contacting the fishery to record his member’s appreciation of a great days fishing. On Sunday the fishery accommodated Colwick Fly Fishers first match of the season as they were forced to cancel their planned match at Thornton due to dirty water caused by the recent heavy rains and snow melt. The fishery responded with the 10 members who fished recording a total of 129 fish with Keith Prouting top rod with a 6 fish bag weighing 12lb 8ozs,
Over the week, the bank fished better than the boats with the majority of the fish being fairly close in, although most of the over wintered fish came to the boat anglers who were better able to access the fish holding areas of Carvers Arm. Black and Green and Green and White lures proved to be the most effective flies although fish were caught on damsel patterns, blobs, snakes and even a few on buzzers.
