Foremark opening day report 1st March
A very wet and cold start to the 2016 season did not deter 69 rod enjoying some tremendous sport on our opening day, with fish coming to the net in all areas.
Boats had good sport just off the cascade and along the Ticknall bank, Gorse bay and in front of the lodge. The banks also fished very well with Verdons point ,the area just in front of the lodge sailing club bay, flamingo bay, sun bless and bramble bays all producing consistently throughout the day.
Montana’s, black and green and damsel lures accounted for a lot of fish as did cat’s whisker, orange fritz, diawl bach and buzzers. Mr P Bailey took 40 fish from various areas of the bank mainly using black and green tadpoles and a weighted daddy. Season permit holder Mr P Walker netted 35 fish on Montana nymph and damsel pattern. Thornton member Mr K Coley and his boat partner Mr R Taft took over 50 fish on fast sinking lines and shellbacks.
Biggest fish of the day fell to season permit holder Mr J Collins a 4lbs8oz rainbow.
69 rods caught 939 fish with 722 fish released. Recording a rod average of 13.6 average size of the trout caught 2lb
